Day Camp

Day Camp Routine for Ages 5 - 12

Whether your children are here to enjoy a fun day in the sun, or if they're here to learn how to plan and develop a program, the Pea Pods Day Camp is more than just your ordinary day camp! We provide an interactive experience for kids of all ages to learn important life skills such as gardening, meal prep, peer building games, and STEM, but it's even more than that!

The campers (and the counsellors) in our programs will have a chance to grow some food, plan their own meals, try new flavours, and even do their own dishes after lunch.  They will have daily opportunities to play in water, create some art, experience song and dance, and get their hands into some dirt.  But they will also have a weekly task of creating an amazing end of week group project that they can really be proud to show off to their families.  Our camp is all about learning how to work together to make projects and goals come to life.

At the end of each day, your children will each be sent home with an individualized mini-report about what they learned, what new things they tried, and even what they ate!  You can learn more about the communications home by clicking here.

Pea Pod Summer Camps have a maximum staff to camper ratio of 1:8!

8:30 to 9:00 am -Arrival of Campers into a Breakfast Routine

-Breakfast includes kids preparing foods for themselves such as oatmeal, mashed potatoes, fruit, cereal, bagels with butter, honey, jam, seeds, and so on.

-Also includes cleanup routine where kids wash and rinse their own dishes.

9:00 to 9:30 am -Campers care for their Seedlings, Plants, and/or Gardens

-Growing food is an essential life skill that we make part of the regular routine.

-This is meant to help kids link the food they eat with the plants they grow.

9:30 to 10:00 am -Mindfulness, Stretching, and Warm-Up Routines

-In practice, this might look like Yoga, Tai-Chi, or Pilates.

10:00 to 11:00 am -Gross Motor Skills or Sports

-This could be a game of capture the flag, soccer, or even skipping rope.  We have some awesome obstacle courses and water sports for kids to get into and play with as well.

11:00 to 12:00 pm -Garden Lunch Routine

-Lunch will include a carbohydrate (such as potatoes, rice, quinoa, noodles, so on..) and a variety of vegetables, cheese, and flavours that kids can choose from and try. The Garden Lunch program will not include any meat products because children will be preparing their own foods. However, children can bring pre-cooked meat from home to compliment their meals if they choose.

-Lunch routine also includes clean up when kids are done eating.

12:00 to 1:00 pm -Open Play Time (like recess)

-Water Play, Sprinklers, Playground, or small organized games with counsellors.

12:00 to 1:30 pm -Open Art

-Kids will have an activity that they can follow, focus on, and be proud to create, or they can use the materials provided to let their creative side shine and create things from their own imaginations too.

1:30 to 3:00pm -Weekly Themed Activity

-There are 9 themes.  You can check them all out on the shopping page.

-Themed activities are a little bit special. They give kids an opportunity to work together to plan and create something extra cool or fun to present to their families on Friday. This might be a dance presentation, an incredible fort they built, or even the harvest party plan for the end of the summer. Campers will be able to get involved in planning, and creating an awesome project as a group.

3:00 to 3:30pm -Music & Dance

-At the end of the day, kids will wait for their parents by making a ton of noise, dancing, learning about instruments, singing karaoke, and possibly all of the above. This is a great way for kids to get their last bit of crazy out before actually enjoying a quiet ride home at the end of the day.

3:30 to 3:45pm - Pick Up

-Parents can show up any time between 3:30 and 3:45pm, and they will be witness to our insane music noise making.  Hopefully this release of energy as you arrive will lead to a quiet and relaxing ride home for everyone.

3:30 to 5:00pm - Late Pick Up

-Parents can show up any time between 3:30 and 5:00pm for a weekly extra charge.  Kids in the late pick up program are offered a garden snack that will be consideration as a nutritious addition to their dinner.  Please see the sign up page for more information.
